Bad Beats

WSOP Europe, MY End of Day 1; London, England September 11, 2007

I should have had my customary (haha) 80k by the third break, but instead I was left with a walk through Central London back to my hotel...

It wasn't that I didn't pick up any hands. I picked up hands left and right. It was actually pretty sick. My problem was getting those hands to hold up...that was a little bit more difficult.

I had, no shit, the following hands come up, all in the second level...

I had KhKs cracked by a gutshot straight draw on the river.

I had a set of 6's cracked by a higher set, K's, on the river.

I had a flush, with 7h8h, cracked by quad 3's, with the 3d on the turn and then the 3son the river.

I had a set of 4's cracked by an open-ender on the river.

Haha! For the love of George Washington Carver! This is not even to mention the other three (!) sets that I flopped and/or hit on the turn, which actually held up! I, honestly, just picked up and made too many damn hands too early in this tournament. You just can't expect them all to hold up and when they don't...well, you get hurt quick.

I was all set up to go on a sick run on another day one, but it was dashed...such is life...

My brain is mushy from how busy I have been lately, so I am taking off for a couple of days in Paris, one of my absolute favorite cities on this planet, and I'll be hollering back at you kids from the Borgata next week...

peace to your domes,
J

A Sad End To The Day at Legends; Los Angeles, CA

Man, what a depressing ending. I ended up busting 7th in another WPT event, this time at the Legends event here in LA, and it really just sucks the ass of a goat. There just isn't any other way to say it.

I really fought my ass off all tournament, and was really actually proud of how I played all week...

In the end I just couldn't get a couple of hands to hold up. I held 10h10c against David Pham's As9d in a 2.5 million chip pot late, but he was able to spike an Ace on the flop to win that one.

Then, on the hand to send me out in 7th, I picked up QhQs and brought it in for my normal raise. Tom Schneider reraised me and I shoved the rest in. He called pretty quickly and turned up his AsJs. I survived the flop when it came all babies, but unfortunately for me the turn delivered the Ac to end my day.

Man, I just don't know what to say. I am so depressed by all of these bubbles recently. I keep feeling like my big breakthrough is here...just to let it slip away at the last second. Blech...

Eh, what can you do? Life ain't all bad. I'll be smiles again in a few days. I'm heading up to San Francisco tomorrow to hang with my old college friends and go to the Cal/Tennessee game in Berkeley, so how bad can it be?

Thanks to everyone for all of the support. You guys have, and always are, amazing, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I promise to deliver you something to really cheer for one of these days...

Also, once again, www.thepokerroad.com is getting closer to becoming a reality...so STAY TUNED...it's gonna be so sick!

peace,
J
